My name is Hannah (they/them),

and I am a scientific illustrator based in CO.

I graduated with a degree in photojournalism from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, but realized after the fact that I love to draw and paint more than I ever liked to hold a camera. However, the skills developed throughout my education - namely, the ability to convey narrative and information through visual imagery - inform all of the work that I make in my present-day career.

My scientific illustrations are precise, informative, and realistic. My personal work is also heavily biological, but trends more toward soft realism, with surreal and symbolic elements. To draw something is to know it intimately, and to know something is to love it. Ultimately, my greatest aspiration is to create work that invites viewers into that familiarity.

I am presently available and excited to work with any scientists or biologists seeking illustrations to accompany journal articles, write-ups, exhibits, educational materials, or other projects of any kind. If this sounds like you, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email!

I am also very interested in creating more bonsai portraits. If you work with a tree that you’d like to have illustrated, or know someone else who fits that bill, I’d love to work with you - let me know!

I particularly appreciate feedback about website accessibility; I’ve done my best to furnish thorough image descriptions and keep things simple and legible. If you have any thoughts on how to improve accessibility, I’d love to hear them!
